Vision Therapy

Vision Therapy is an integral part of our optometric care; it is devoted to developing, improving, and enhancing a person’s visual system.  Our goal is to provide the necessary tools to allow a person to perform everyday tasks more easily and efficiently.

Vision is more than “just seeing” 20/20. Over 90% of the information we process is visual. A person may have 20/20 vision (acuity) but may not have developed the ability to interpret, identify, or understand what is being seen. This process starts at birth and continues to develop throughout our lives. This is why it is so important that we learn to see correctly at an early age.

Success in learning is directly linked to good vision. In fact, 80% of all learning is done visually.  If this skill has not been mastered, it begins to catch up with the individual.  Many notice this by the end of the elementary years when more reading is necessary or in the middle school years when students are directly applying what they have read to their studies. This is why we emphasize the three areas necessary for excellent reading, which are convergence, accommodation, and tracking.

Headed by Dr. McDonald our Vision Therapists Dean Bruemmer, Wanda Bublitz, and Kayla Walker offer our patients an individually tailored therapy program. Certified through the Baltimore Academy of Behavioral Optometry (BABO) program, they are trained in the three areas of visual dysfunctions, learning related vision problems, strabismus, and amblyopia.  By addressing these areas of vision we focus on heightening human performance in reading, sports, and many other everyday life situations.

Throughout the V.T. process, a person maximizes their visual skills to become more effective in school, at work, or on the playing field. Our patients range in age from 5 to 55 and every individual has their own tailored course to best meet their goals and needs. Upon mastering the skills learned while working with Dean, those lacking self esteem leave with new found confidence.

Vision Therapy is offered Monday though Friday and is sometimes covered by Insurance.
